June was no less busy for the household than previous isolation months had been, and in some ways was even more busy.
On top of the usual busyness of taking care of household, shopping and cooking duties (while ensuring that my wife had the time and space needed for all her online teaching, and my daughter had all her work done and submitted and was good to go for her online classroom meetings), plus the kiddo’s usual jujitsu classes (also done online these days), there were also three added classes a week through a local centre that’s focused on girl and young women education and empowerment. Mondays featured an art class, Thursdays were cooking and baking–and whoo, man, did they make some great stuff–and Fridays were just a fun online time for the youth with group games.
And while all that was great and my daughter enjoyed it, it did make for even more to juggle from week to week.
I keep hearing and reading about people who have all this extra time on their hands through these isolation days–those who can do their normal office work from home are doing that, but at least it’s cutting down on commuting time; while those who simply aren’t working these days just have more time to themselves–I’ve become busier than ever. Meaning that not only do I not generally have extra time for creative outlets and pursuits, but I’m actually having to do such things even later at night than I used to “before”.
All of which is to say that I’m still not getting through the volume of books that I expected to be able to get through, and that I’d really like to be getting through. To be fair, finishing one book started in May plus two full novels (very nearly three) isn’t a bad total, and I know it’s not a race or about chalking up those numbers, I just expected to be able to get to more.
And with all the library books I’ve been picking up and are sitting here tempting me, I was very much hoping to.
In any case, here’s how June shaped up:
